The property at Allan House is a heavily utilitarian collection of buildings built between 1906 and 1910, light-industrial in their assembly and historical development, surrounded by what appears to be a war-zone of derelict and unkempt properties that are similarly ripe for the redevelopment of the Ouseburn Development Area.
The premises were built for the Tyne Ship Building and Steam Company and used as a marine chandlers and sail loft and underneath the property runs the 1839 Grade 2 listed
Victoria Tunnel. Our interest in the applicant property as a possible venue for a Hotel du Vin was generated by two specific circumstances.
Firstly, the street presence of the main brick building fronting onto City Road is very impressive. Its careful brick-detailing and beautifully proportioned fenestration immediately catches the eye. Secondly, the location of the premises, being just five minutes walk from the new riverside 'hub' of the city, made the property a 'must-see' venue for our acquisition and development team. |
