The project involved the conversion of The Brakspear Brewery. The existing Georgian buildings were a significant and historic part of Henley’s built environment occupying a central location. The change of use was achieved by introducing as few alterations to the existing built fabric as possible without major structural alterations or extensions. This was achieved by subdivision of the existing spaces with lightweight partitions or glass screens; mostly radiating around the central dray yard. The end product is a conversion which preserves the original buildings and provides a unique, elegant, fully equipped hotel. The hotel won the 2005 Sleeper European Design Award for its Rooms and Bathrooms design and, was placed fourth in the overall conservation category.
